The 'tracks' feature allows you to activate various forms of additional interactivity in the Tradecast Player. In this article we will discuss two of them: 'Chapter Selection' and 'Subtitling'. You activate and manage both track features per video in the Video Overview of your own Tradecast platform.
Adding and managing tracks is done in the last tab you see when you click 'Edit' on a video's selection menu in the Video Overview. Tracks - including chapter selection and subtitles - are added using an external .vtt file, an example of which we show later in this article. With an external .vtt file you let the Tradecast Player know at what times additional information should be displayed on screen, for example chapter points or subtitles.
The third track variant is the more expansive 'metadata track' and we discuss this in its own article on Tradecast Learn.
Adding subtitles
If you want to add one or more subtitle tracks to your video, you can do so through the 'Tracks' tab, the last in the row under the 'Edit' selection menu option. Here you choose 'Subtitles' from the 'Type' dropdown menu. To its left you will find the 'Track' upload button, where you can upload the .vtt file with the necessary subtitling information from your computer. If you don't already have a .vtt subtitle file, you can use free online tools like Happyscribe to generate it with.
In the 'Label' entry field, enter the name under which you want the subtitle selection to appear in the Tradecast Player. This can be the name of the language - for example, 'English' or 'Italian' - but it can also be another word, whatever is appropriate. Finally, under 'Language Code' select the corresponding language code that belongs to your subtitle language, such as 'EN' for English and 'IT' for Italian. Save your changes by clicking 'Save' at the bottom of the screen.
You can create and activate multiple subtitle tracks per video by repeating the above steps.
Adding chapter selection
Creating and activating chapter selection works in a similar way to creating and activating subtitle tracks. Under the 'Type' dropdown menu, choose 'Chapters' and upload your .vtt file with chapter information using the upload button next to 'Track'. If you don't already have a .vtt chapter file, you can use the setup below to create one:
After uploading your .vtt chapter track, choose a label and language code and click 'Save' at the bottom of the screen. From now on, your viewers can navigate through your video using the chapter moments you define.
