In order to link your Tradecast video platform to a domain name you have purchased - and thus ensure that anyone visiting your domain name from a browser is correctly redirected to your video platform - it is important to set up the name servers of your domain name correctly. In this article we explain how to do this.
Setting the name servers is done in the administrator portal of the hosting provider where you purchased your domain name. Each hosting provider offers its own method for modifying the name servers, but many steps are similar. In this article, we will go through these common steps. First, we'll briefly explain what a name server is, because this may help you distinguish this type of record from the other records that can be referred to in your hosting provider's management portal.
What is a name server?
A name server translates domain names into IP addresses. If someone types a domain name into their browser, then their computer will ask your website's name server which IP address to surf to. Something similar happens when an email is sent. It is therefore essential that name servers are set up for your domain name so that your domain is accessible to visitors and e-mails. Without working nameservers, your domain will not be reachable.
How do I set my video platform's name servers correctly?
During the onboarding process at Tradecast, you will receive the name servers that belong to your video platform from your Tradecast Support contact. You will then need to set these up yourself via the administration portal of your domain or hosting provider. Setting the name servers is often done under the heading 'DNS' or 'Redirect management', which you can find after clicking on your domain name. By going to a button like 'Adjust Name Server Record', you come to a screen where you can adjust your name servers for the chosen domain name.
Here, you will find the currently set and active Name Servers. Delete these and replace them with the name servers you received from your Tradecast Support contact. Use only lower case when typing the new name servers and no upper case letters. Then click a button like 'Save' to apply the new name servers.
Note: it can take up to 48 hours for the change in name servers to be applied globally.
