Once you have created a live stream, you can check and manage the settings of this live stream at any time via the 'Live streaming' overview in the CMS of your video platform. Here you can also find the 'playout URL' and 'stream URL', two locations that are important in enabling your live stream in the right way. In this article we explain what both URLs are used for.
Clicking on the 'Live streaming' button in the main menu of your video platform's CMS will take you to the main overview for creating and managing live streams. If a live stream has already been created, you can manage the settings of this stream by clicking on the three-dot symbol (...) and then clicking on 'View'. On the next page you will get an overview of all settings you have entered for the specific live stream.
The drop-down menus 'Stream preview' and 'Thumbnail' allow you to respectively check the incoming live stream signal and add a thumbnail to the live stream, which then becomes visible on the front-end of your video platform. The next block shows the chosen title and description of the live stream. In the block below that you can check the publishing settings of your live stream and you will find the playout URL and the stream URL.
What are the playout URL and the stream URL?
The playout URL is the URL that your video platform uses to play out the live stream signal. Or, in other words, the outgoing signal of the live stream on your video platform. The stream URL, on the other hand, is the address where your streaming software - for example OBS - needs to send the live video signal to in order for it to be properly broadcast on your video platform.
What are the Stream URL and Stream Key for the 'Basic livestream' option?
When you've selected the 'Basic Livestream' option when creating a livestream, the Stream URL and Stream Key are as follows:
Stream URL 1:
rtmp://p.i.entrypoint.tradecast.eu/livestream/klantnaamBBA593754BD490096225182nJWf9ZLXQud62bbSrUrWw&e=16581200&cb=U2FsdGVkX192atEDtqkovKA6lm0TNh-9Pig-0M9698sAjFHCbK98AbTrfJhmTgW5XGU9G1t~ci292fO1E63tVoHrjw__
The Stream URL will then be:
rtmp://p.i.entrypoint.tradecast.eu/livestream/
The Stream Key will then be:
platformnaamBBA593754BD490096225182nJWf9ZLXQud62bbSrUrWw&e=16581200&cb=U2FsdGVkX192atEDtqkovKA6lm0TNh-9Pig-0M9698sAjFHCbK98AbTrfJhmTgW5XGU9G1t~ci292fO1E63tVoHrjw__
What are the Stream URL and Stream Key when selecting ‘Premium livestream’
When you've selected the 'Premium Livestream' option when creating the livestream, the Stream URL and Stream Key are as follows:
Stream URL 1:
rtmp://54.155.180.192:1935/live/BBA3F7BBB334CAB9B1D719E579ADAD8
The Stream URL will then be:
rtmp://54.155.180.192:1935/live/
The Stream Key will then be:
BBA3F7BBB334CAB9B1D719E579ADAD8
Note: every live streaming software - including software like OBS and Wirecast - has its own preferences for accepting the stream URL. OBS, for example, asks for the so-called 'stream key'. That's the part after the forward slash (/) in the field behind the heading 'stream URL'. In the above example, the stream key is:
BBA3F7BBB334CAB9B1D719E579ADAD8
The part before the forward slash is - in the case of OBS - the 'stream URL'.
Hardware encoders
When you use a hardware encoder, such as HELO for example, the stream URL is slightly different. Here the stream URL is the full URL, so for example:
rtmp://52.210.119.74:1935/live/A7C8F6EE1E04419FA078C54B066D1DDC
The stream key then remains the code after the slash (/), so in this case:
A7C8F6EE1E04419FA078C54B066D1DDC
Need help?
The streaming software you use to live stream to your own video platform may use the stream URL differently. If you need help with the proper application of the stream URL in the live streaming software you are using, please contact Tradecast Support.
