Managing videos that you have uploaded to the CMS of your video platform starts in the Media Overview. There, you can adjust the video's settings, adjust its visibility on your front-end and add interactive elements to the video. In this article we explain which settings you can apply to a video in order to manage the video and make it visible at the front-end of your video platform.
In the Media Overview, you can choose a video to manage by clicking on the three-dot icon (...) to show the settings menu:
The following options appear in the settings menu, which you can use - per video - to adjust the following:
- View: watch the video
- Edit: edit the video's meta data, such as the title, description and on-demand category
- Delete: delete the video from the CMS
- Analytics: view analytics information generated by your audience, specific to this video
- Share/embed: request the embed code of the video, to be able to embed or share it
- Add post: use the video as the core of a written article or blog post on your video platform
- Overlays: add interactive overlays yo your video, such as a link to a website or webshop
- Download: download the video to your computer
- E-learning: add an interactive E-learning module to the video, to ask questions to your viewers and gather and analyze their answers
To manage a video, click the 'Edit' button in the settings menu. You will now be taken to the Edit screen for this specific video.
Choosing and adjusting the thumbnail
On the first tab, 'Type', you can choose one of five auto-generated preview images (or thumbnail) for your video. The last button, 'Add your own thumbnail', lets you choose and upload your own thumbnail image. Please note that - preferably - this image has to be in a 16:9 ratio for the best possible display on your video platform's front-end.
Basic information and Availability
In the 'Basic Information' tab (see image above) you can provide your video with a name, a description and an on-demand category. Adding keywords will make the video easier to find for you and any other CMS users. Press 'Next' to reach the 'Availability' tab, where you can decide from which time (and until which time, if applicable) the video should be available on the front-end on-demand overview of your video platform.
Advanced information
Under 'Advanced information' you can decide the visibility of your video on the platform. You can also use this tab to notify your viewers that you have posted a new video, by sending them a push notification (once per video, to be received by registered and logged in iOS and Android app users only). This is done by placing a check mark in the box titled 'Send push notifications to users (one time)' and by adding a short title and description. By clicking 'Save' at the bottom of the screen, you will send the push notification to logged in users of your video platform app who have also detailed their Interests (more on this in a moment).
The input fields 'Now & then title' and 'Now & then subtitle' allow you to edit the text shown in the 'Now & then' bar that accompanies a video on the linear timeline your platform. Below these input fields, you can also specify the start time and duration of those bars.
Assigning Interests
In the drop down menu titled 'Interests', you can choose which Interest categories apply to this particular video. This is a mandatory step if you want to send a push notification to trigger iOS and Android app users to watch this new video. In that case, only users who have selected the interest category or categories that this video falls under, will receive a notification. Users select their Interest categories when they register on your video platform. Press 'Save' at the bottom of the screen to return to the Media Overview.
Publishing content in the on-demand overview
Making content actually visible on the front–end of your platform (on both the web version and the platform-apps) is done on the 'Availability' tab. There, the top button is especially important: 'Published in On Demand'. By adding a date and a time there, you determine the moment from which the video will be available on the platform. Here you can also schedule videos to appear at a later moment in the on-demand overview. A convenient feature, especially if you want content to appear at times when you don't have access to your CMS.
Push-melding versturen
Sending a push notification to your viewers with access to your iOS and/or Android app(s) is done in the tab 'Advanced Information'. By ticking the third check box, you unfold two new lines to fill in. When filling in the title and description of your push notification, take into account the maximum number of characters that fit push notifications on most smartphones and tablets. These limits also include spaces and punctuation marks.
Before sending a push notification, make sure that the appropriate Interest category or categories for that specific video are checked in the Interests drop-down menu. Registered viewer of your platform will only receive a push notification for pushed videos that fall under the interest category or categories you have selected. Also take into account that a registered viewer must have activated push notifications on his or her smartphone or tablet.
Advanced Information
Furthermore, the 'Advanced Information' tab offers a number of other options to make content more visible on the platform. For example, you can pin a specific video on the homepage or the on-demand screen of your video platform's front-end and decide whether custom texts should appear in the Now and Then bars on the Timeline, the horizontal banners that appear on screen as soon as the video pops up on the Timeline. You don't have to fill in these fields, because by default the system takes the title and the first words of the video's description to show on the the Now and Then bars.
